INTRABOND Sustainability
INTRABOND manufactures several products and paint systems that are not only architecturally appealing but also consistent with sustainable building practices.
INTRABOND products are manufactured from aluminum substrates and a low density polyethylene core that use a significant amount of recycled material, are highly recyclable and are coated with PPG Duranar FC Kynar 500 coating systems, which offer higher solar reflectance values and COOLER pigments warranted for thirty years. Intrabond material may also help a project earn the US Green Building Council’s LEED points for reaching various levels of LEED certification.
Aluminum Composite Material is Sustainable
Aluminum is highly recyclable and corrosion resistant and can be renewed and reformed time and again. In addition, the low density polyethylene core can be recycled and regularly reused in the construction of new panels and other products. Aluminum Composite Material is also durable, and can last in excess of thirty years due to long lasting PVDF Kynar 500 paint technology. The material requires little maintenance, no resurfacing or repainting and can be reused at the end of the building cycle for other products such as shelving, trims and animal shelters.
Regional Manufacturing
ACM may provide regional manufacturing and processing credits to meet LEED requirements.
High Panel Strength
ACM has high panel strength to weight ratio, and uses approximately one third to one fourth of the aluminum required by products using solid aluminum. Because ACM uses much less aluminum in manufacturing it saves on the mining of raw materials and the energy and resources required for this purpose. In addition, ACM is half the weight of similar thickness aluminum sheet, which requires less substrate material and equipment for product handling.
Fire Safety
Aluminum is a fire resistive material. When FR core ACM is required, the panels can be used in Fire Rated construction applications for high-rise buildings in accordance with local and national model building codes.
